The caboclinho is a passerine bird in the Emberizidae family. Also known as caboclinho-true, caboclinho-to-head-brown, black-eyed (Pernambuco), caboclinho-São Paulo, caboclinho-crowned, beak-rail (Rio de Janeiro), ferrinha, caboclinho-beautiful (Amapá and Minas Gerais) , cabocolino (Pará and Ceará), collared from the swamp and caboclinho basking.

It is approximately 10 cm long. The male is generally cinnamon color, with a cap, black wings and tail and the female is brown-olive ridley in the upper parts and whitish-yellow in the lower. Females of caboclinhos in general are very similar to each other, making it difficult to identify each species and allowing miscegenation. The present young females of the same color.

Each litter is generally between 2 and 3 eggs having 2 to 4 litters per season. The chicks hatch after 13 days.
