The prince is a passerine bird in the Tyrannidae family.
Receives other common names, and Prince. In the Pantanal region receives the common name of the Baron Melgaço and indicates the next arrival at St. John party, in late June, when it's noticed. It can be called even in the city of Barão de Melgaço, as in most of the Pantanal (Poconé, Cáceres) are as-Johnny. It is popularly known as "bull's blood" in southern Brazil, as well as "summer" in southern Brazil, indicating the arrival there, at a time when the weather warms, after winter.
Pyros is fire in Greek, and cephalus is head (Latin); rubinus, ruby drift, red gemstone. The name means "Fire head ruby", closely related to red coloration of the species.

The male in breeding plumage, is unmistakable. The bright red of the ventral part contrasts with the dark back. Behind the eyes, a dark line enhances the contrast and makes it unique. In the female, the male juvenile and adult male, between March and July, the plumage of the ventral region is light gray with darker streaks. Belly with pink feathers slightly orange or yellowish (juveniles) or red (adult). The dark line behind this eyes with the back in dark tone, but less contrast than in breeding plumage.
food

They feed on insects caught in the air or on the ground. Then returning to favorite perch.
reproduction

Breeding in the spring to return migration. The nest is shaped like a flat bowl and is coated roots and mosses, and inside contains silk cotton and wool. 4 or 5 placed eggs. In the breeding season, the male acquires red color of the plumage, and after playing it acquires brown feathers, the rest sexual characteristics. Are called popularly summer, as are summer residents. In the breeding season the male flies getting aspect of a butterfly and on that occasion sings enough.
habits

Living in camps and closed. Besides the colors, stands out for its habit of land on exposed branches, fences and wires. Occupies the outdoors, from fields, river beaches with up cerrado shrubs and forest vegetation edges. No place in areas with high density of vegetation. Use environments created by human hands, being outstanding and gardens and urban parks. You can still be seen on the outskirts of cities.
