Savanna Hawk

The Savanna Hawk, also known by the names of hawk-coat-of-leather, hawk-tile (Sao Paulo), hawk-smoke (Mato Grosso) and hawk-tinga (Pará), is a country hawk family of acipitrídeos, that occurs from Panama to Argentina and Brazil, but in the Amazon only in some places, such as the east of Pará and the lower Amazon region. Common in fields, pastures, wetlands edge, mangroves, small forests of eucalyptus in country areas and in the cerrado.

The species measures about 55 inches long, with rusty plumage. The adult is all reddish brown, with the tip of the black wings and tail and long sentences. It has a white band, narrow tail. Legs and bare skin of the nostrils, yellow. Black beak and reddish brown eye. Like other hawks, the young man is very different. Faded colors, gray-brown back and belly cream, with dark vertical stripes and a dark semi-leash. On the eyes, a clear stripe. The tail is cream, with fine dark stripes. Long black subterminal band. Long wing feathers with thin stripes and black tip.
food

It is a hawk open areas, fields and savannas, where it feeds on several prey such as small mammals, birds, snakes, lizards, frogs, toads and large insects. At low water, catch crabs.
reproduction

Reproduces from July to November. Nests the little height on low trees or palm trees. Add 1 or rarely 2 egg whites.
habits

Flies to the burnt, usually landing on branches in front of the fire, or walk behind the flames, sometimes a few meters of the flames. In front of the fire, catching the small vertebrates and insects fleeing the fire, while the back of eating animals and insects dying or killed by fire. It has an area of exclusive hunting, away from the other hawks-mestizos. The couple communicates through a thin, long and tearful whistle, repeated continuously. Fly high, enjoying the warm air currents to soar, or through active flight, with rhythmic beat of the wings. Extremely aloof, the Caboclo hawk is always alert to any movement, taking off quickly when it feels threatened
