The gray Tanager is a passerine bird in the tanager family. Also known as Tanager of the papaya, Tanager, common-Tanager, Tanager the-mulberry, and Northeast as pipira-blue and blue Tanager (Natal / RN). One of the most common birds in the country, known for performing stunts amid dispute fruit with other birds.

About the size of 18 cm and 42 grams of weight (male), has gray body, slightly blue with the bottoms a little clearer. The tail and wings aspontas are blue-green, but little contrasting. Immature are greenish. Can be confused with the Tanager of-meeting-blue, but the latter is much more bluish, especially against the wing and also has the largest beak. It is certainly the most common Tanager in our country. It has a long corner, interrupted by the sound of high and low notes.

Fruits, leaves, shoots, eucalipatos of flowers and insects, among them the winged termite ("hallelujahs" or "sirirís") captured in flight. Normally lives in the treetops in search of ripe fruit, but are bold enough to also take the fallen: preferring to those who are already infested with larvae; enjoying them with other birds such as Burnished-yellow and the thrush-the-beach. Appreciates the fruits of Tapia or tanheiro (glandulosa Alchornea). Do you usually feeders with fruit.

The nest, built by the couple is compact, made of small roots, leaf petioles and mosses, with an external diameter of about 11 cm. Is hidden in dense vegetation, in a tree fork in varying heights. The female lays 2 to 3 egg white are painted brown similar to the sabiás only smaller, and is responsible for the incubation lasting 12 to 14 days. The couple feeds the young, which leave the nest after 20 days of age.
